UW Graduate Courses
- Quality of Health Care (PH 703) - This course combines clinical and systems engineering perspectives, focusing on strategies to address quality and safety challenges in healthcare organizations. It is required for the Certificate in Patient Safety and is an elective for the Certificate in Type 2 Translational Research.
- Introduction to Type 2 Translational Research (PH 650) - Type 2 Translational Research solves problems in translating findings from efficacy studies into improvements in clinical practice and community health programs. To learn more, check out the annotated bibliography on Type 2 Translational Research compiled by Dr. Maureen Smith. This course is required for the Certificate in Type 2 Translational Research. Certificate Programs
The University of Wisconsin offers several certificate programs related to improvement in the healthcare system.
- Certificate in Patient Safety -The Systems Engineering Initiative for Patient Safety (SEIPS) has developed a certificate in patient safety that is open to all graduate students enrolled at UW-Madison. Students may choose to obtain their 1-semester practicum experience working with HIP.
Program Description | Application
- Certificate in Type 2 Translational Research - The Certificate in Type 2 Translational Research addresses a well documented gap in what should be a continuum between basic health and medical research discoveries and the application of those discoveries in clinical and public health practice. To bridge this gap, new discoveries must move beyond efficacy studies (type I translational research) to research that tests effectiveness in real world settings.
